Innovative Wastewater Solutions, Inc. (IWS,Inc.) was founded and formed by partners, Kevin Davis and Kenton Brotherton. Kevin is a graduate of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with BS degree in Agriculture with a Major in Plant and Soil Science (’98). Kenton is also a graduate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville with a Degree in Agriculture with a Major in Environmental and Soil Science (’04). Kenton also has a Master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Biosystems Engineering (’07).
Both partners completed a 3-year apprenticeships with TDEC approved soil consultants after college. Kevin was certified as a soil scientist with TDEC in 2001 and Kenton was certified in 2010. Both were licensed in 2009 when TDEC adopted a Soil Scientist Licensing Program. In 2013, they saw the need to incorporate to offer more services to their clients. As a result, Innovative Wastewater Solutions, Inc. (IWS, Inc.) was launched in 2014.
We have worked in almost all of the counties in Tennessee and our well versed in Septic System permitting, SOP permitting, and UIC permitting. With our history of Realtors and Developers, we have developed extensive relationships with multiple Engineers, Surveyors, Soil Scientists, and Regulators. If we can’t complete the task required, we can get you in contact with well-respected firms that can.
Today, we offer professional consultation and construction for our clients. Whether you are a land developer or a first-time homeowner, IWS, Inc. can help you navigate the building and permitting process with our thorough understanding of regulatory process. IWS, Inc. can design, permit and install any and all septic systems and wastewater treatment systems. We are approved maintenance providers for advanced treatment systems and are distributors for the Norweco treatment plant. As licensed and insured contractors in the State of Tennessee, we do offer construction services. Innovative Wastewater Solutions is a one stop shop for all your development needs.

As a graduate of University of Tennessee with a degree in Plant and Soil Science, Kevin started training as an apprentice soil scientist in 1998 in East Tennessee. As an apprentice, he completed multiple site evaluations across the state of Tennessee. He specializes in site design, septic layouts and innovative solutions for problem sites. Kevin and his wife Julia live in Morristown, TN with their children. Kevin enjoys spending time with his family on the lake, river, watching his children play sports, Carson Newman and University of Tennessee Athletics.
Kenton Brotherton was born and raised in Greene County Tn. Kenton received his Bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee in Environmental and Soil Science (2004) along with his master’s degree (2007) under supervision of Dr. John Buchanon. Kenton completed his soil scientist apprenticeship with both Spring Ridge Soil Consulting and Searcy Soils Mapping. Kenton is licensed as a soil scientist in Tennessee along with holding an installer license for alternative septic systems. Kenton has over 20 years of soil scientist and onsite wastewater dispersol experience. Kenton and his wife Lindsay live in Greeneville, Tn along with their 3 daughters. Kenton enjoys spending time with his daughters, bow hunting in the mid-west, turkey hunting, time on his farm, and the University of Tennessee athletics.
Adam Shelton has been a soil scientist apprentice along with the project development coordinator for Innovative Wastewater Solutions, Inc. since October of 2015.
He assists with the study of the physical, chemical, biological, and mineralogical properties of soil. He then aids in the use of this knowledge to classify soils and produce soils maps. These maps help the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation along with IWS clients to have knowledge on how to use or develop the land.
Adam also handles many aspects of the operations within the company. This includes estimating and managing construction projects for both the government sector and some in the private sector. Adam and his wife, Tiffany live in Mosheim, TN with their 2 children. He enjoys spending time with his family, watching his kid plays sports and is avid deer hunter.
Chris Dalton graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture with a major in Environmental Science in ’98. He has been an apprentice for a total of 10 years and has completed multiple soil evaluations across the state of Tennessee. Chris resides in Maryville, TN. He has a daughter and in his free time he enjoys time spent with her. He also enjoys snow skiing, hunting, hiking and fishing in his off time.
Gabe Davis brings more than 25 years of experience in environmental protection and wastewater management to Innovative Wastewater Solutions. A graduate of the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor of Science degree, Gabe spent his career with the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
There, he served as an environmental scientist, consultant, and manager, gaining extensive expertise in permitting, inspecting, and approving onsite wastewater systems. His work also included evaluating soils, designing and approving large and alternative systems, and overseeing the land-based unit of the Division of Water Resources in the Knoxville region.
Gabe is excited to continue his service to the community through Innovative Wastewater Solutions, where he believes he can more effectively help his neighbors with practical, sustainable wastewater solutions.
He and his wife, Shawna, have been married for 25 years and are proud parents of two children, Ryan and Ally.
